During Design Week, Digital Forming's Creative Director, Assa, delighted visitors at Milan Design Week with his vision of co-design.

Assa’s  digital  sculptures were showcased in the bright and modern space of .Exnovo’s ‘Dream Factory’, a contemporary art lab in downtown Milan run by 3D print experts, HSL. 3D printed products were on display from several collections including Freedom Of Creation “FOC” from the Netherlands and EOS, a German rapid prototyping specialty products company.

Visitors to .Exnovo’s Dream Factory were invited to ‘unlock’ Assa’s designs through the Digital Forming platform.  Within the platform’s intuitive 3D interface, users (with no previous design experience) could view Assa’s ‘ODO’s or ‘Original Design Objects’ and proceed to engage in customization and co-design to produce ‘CODO’s or ‘Co-Designed Objects’. The user or ‘co-designer’ was allowed to modify Assa’s designs by choosing colours, adjusting shapes and adding elements from a library of parts. When finished, their CODO could be ordered through the platform for manufacturing. “It’s time to empower the masses. The things we own need to perform better for us” said the designer, who strongly believes that individuals now wish to interact with designers and brands on their own terms.

Digital Forming was a big hit at Most Salone, the festival of design, innovation and culture during this year’s Milan Design Week. 

Thanks to the Digital Forming co-design platform and 3D printing technologies, our ‘Co-Design Bar’ offered the public a chance to design bespoke products with internationally acclaimed designer, Tom Dixon.

This revolutionary design experience was located in the Antecenncalo of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology, where our Co-Design Bar was equipped with multiple computer workstations that enabled visitors to design and create bespoke lamp shades or speaker covers at the click of a button. 

Once happy with their design, visitors could place an order for delivery to their home within two weeks.

Digital Forming was delighted to be an exhibitor within this stunning half-million square foot museum, with a 16th century monastery on one side and a purpose built 1950s concrete architecture on the other side. The space was transformed by Tom Dixon, whose main ambition was to bring manufacturing to the customer in a way that would allow them to understand how things are made.

In line with this theme, the manufacturing process at the Co-Design Bar was emphasized just as much as the end product.  

As the Digital Forming design interface allows for an infinite range of design possibilities within the bounds set by Tom Dixon, the only manufacturing technology that is viable for such mass customization is 3D Printing, also known as Additive Manufacturing, which was offered in conjunction with world leading specialists, EOS Electro Optical Systems.

Tom Dixon’s ‘Luminosity’ was also a success show casing new lamps, lights and shades presented in a series of illuminated environments. While some of the other exhibitors included: Boca do Lobo, Carpigiani Gelato University, DassaultSystèmes, Designersblock, Dezeen Studio Powered by Jambox, Fabrica for Italian Chair Design, Flux, LEFF Amsterdam, Lorenz, MG Lab, Molo, Objekten, Portugal Brands, SodaStream, Stefanel, TokyoBike UK, Trumpf and TUMI.

The week was packed with daily events and talks. Some of the events that took place included: ‘SCP Upholstery Workshop,’where visitors were invited to make an armchair using fully sustainable upholstery techniques; ‘Design Your Own Gelato,’ gelato workshops delivered by masters from the Carpigiani Gelato University; and ‘La Cura,’Studio Toogood's intimate performances that provided an environment to rebalance the senses and recover from the busy Salone.

All you need to do is alter the design as little or as much as you prefer and the Digital Forming team will be on hand to assist your needs.

We are excited to be exhibiting at MOST, a new and important destination instigated by Tom Dixon which will turn the National Museum of Science and Technology Milan into an ambitious environment for innovation and culture. 

Digital Forming will be a part of a diverse group of leading global brands and young designers who will be located in the extraordinary historic spaces of the museum from Tuesday April 17 - Sunday 22 April. This collision of technology, culture and design is set to be one of Milan's highlights during Salone del Mobile 2012.

Digital Forming brings a glamourous touch to technology in this month's edition of Vogue. 

Vogue says "wow" to Lisa Harouni's work as the female chief executive of Digital Forming.

If you want to read more she is featured within its New Talent section as part of a group of young talent to watch. 

Vogue, part of the Condé Nast Group, is largely considered to be the originator of  “lifestyle magazines.”

Digital Forming made a big hit at the Lift Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The day started early with a with a variety of engaging workshops ranging from "Story writing for the web" to "DJing in the Cloud." After the workshops the crowd heard from a range of inspirational stories from people with amazing lives and projects.

After lunch, Digital Forming's Managing Director and CEO Lisa Harouni featured in the Near Futures session. This session explored near future technologies, and innovations that will happen in the next 5 years and change the way we live, do business, love, learn, play, and interact.

Harouni dazzled the crowd by explaining the benefits and implications of 3D Printing  and mass customisation for both businesses and individuals.

The Lift Conferences are a series of events built around a community of pioneers who get together in Europe and Asia to explore the social implications of new technologies. Each event is a chance to turn innovation into opportunities by anticipating the major shifts ahead, and meet the people who drive them.

Lift started in 2006 with 350 participants and is now an international series of events.

Digital Forming's Managing Director Lisa Harouni spoke at the TED Salon in London where she gave a useful introduction to mass customisation and 3D printing. With nearly 600,000 views internationally, the talk was a big success!

Harouni explained why 2012 is being referred to as the year of 3D printing, and gave a detailed explanation of the excitement around this nearly three-decade-old technology and why it is finally becoming more accessible and even commonplace. 


“Travels in Space, Time & Imagination” was the theme of the fifth TEDSalon in London, which took place on Thursday 10 November 2011. The event was sold out and kicked off with champagne and canapés. 

Some of the other speakers included British soul singer Alice Russell, Time magazine’s London Bureau Chief Catherine Mayer, Swedish photographer Erik Johansson and Member of the British Parliament, Kwasi Kwarteng,
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.
