The buzz around Digital Forming is spreading to the Far East as some of our ODOs and CODOs are hitting Tokyo Designers' Week. The general public will have the opportunity to check out what we've been getting up to half way around the globe while we hope that our concept helps inspire designers to get involved as well. Some of Assa's designs will be displayed, while NTT Data Engineering Systems, part of Japan's largest telecoms company and those exhibiting our concepts for us, are putting on a CODO software demo for anyone to try out. If you're in the Shinjuku region of Japan's capital next week, look them up and be inspired! The show is on 1st-6th November, with more information on what's going on at the link below. Digital Forming made for a natural fit at the conference, with Lisa taking to the stage and wowing those in attendance with a stream of concepts at the heart of Digital Forming's business model. Ranging from additive manufacturing to mass customization, the audience got to grips with the technology fast with the help of the now-famous fabricated violin, and a couple of cool gifts supplied by us in partnership with EOS. Wired were first on the scene to publish about Lisa's talk, linked below. Link to article Lisa has been invited to TED to talk about mass manufacturing, Digital Forming and the next industrial revolution. TED (which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design), provides hundreds of forums around the world every year for some truly great ideas to be shared and Lisa will be able to add to that melting pot on 10th November at a TED salon event in London. Keep an eye out for more info on this, coming soon! Digital Forming at TCT Live 04/10/2011
Last week, the DF team spent time at 3D printing convention TCT Live 2011. On Monday, Lisa gave a talk about democratising design using 3D printing technologies to an audience of industry insiders, which went down very well. On Tuesday, it was the team's turn to be educated, as they got to stretch their legs and have a look at different 3D printing solutions presented on the showfloor. Day three was all about meeting some interesting contacts and wrapping up a very productive show. Check out the slideshow below to see a glimpse of what we were up to (use the slider at the bottom of the slideshow to navigate between pictures). The installation took place at the V&A Porter Gallery, Sacker Centre and Garden as part of the LDF Digital Design Weekend, curated by Irini Papadimitriou. With a vibrant selection of Assa’s product designs on show, the installation was a big hit! Attendees of all ages were invited to tweak Assa’s designs through the Digital Forming platform and to learn more about how their co-designed products could be manufactured for them locally at London Metropolitan University using additive manufacturing processes (aka ‘3D printing’).
